Lutheran
Family Services began serving children through orphanages in Fremont and
Omaha back in 1892. Today, over a century later, LFS continues meeting the
needs of children and their families. Margaret Mead once said, “We must
have a place where children can have a whole group of adults they can trust.”
Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska is that place.
To assist some of the 5,000 children involved in Nebraska’s foster care system, Lutheran Family Services continues to provide foster care services through their Specialized Foster Care program. This program provides temporary care for children in foster homes that are trained, licensed and supported by LFS staff. The need for qualified foster parents is greater than ever. Consider getting yourself or someone you know information on becoming a foster parent. Together, we can change lives.
Do you have room in your heart and home for a foster child?

Building Up in Faith is the theme for our current capital campaign. Just about every corner of our church home is receiving a dramatic improvement. And those areas not under remodel are receiving fresh paint and a little attention. For more details, click here.
The Morning Star Ministry Investment Committee met on Monday, April 28th. Bob Van Meter presented a report from the Ushering Committee on the need to have two defibrillators, one for the main floor and one near the fellowship hall and the preschool.
The estimated cost for these life saving machines, with all accessories included, is estimated at $3,350. Ushers, and other appropriate individuals, would be provided training for the use of the machines.
The Committee determined that the request met resolution guideline Number 6 (Up to 50% of the fund income may be distributed to capital needs as necessary) and voted to contribute 50% or $1,675 with a request to the congregation to match these funds to complete the entire purchase cost.
Donations may be sent to the church office or put in the offering plate with a designation (Defibrillator Fund). Questions may be directed to Bob Van Meter or other Morning Star Ministry Investment Fund Committee member.
Help Save a Life - It Could Be Yours!
Articles for the August Light are due in the church office no later than 8:00 AM on Monday, July 21st. You can leave a hard copy of your article on the desk in the office or in Pam’s mailbox, or you can it to her. Please let Pam know if you have an article for the newsletter but won’t have it in by that date.
The deadline to have an announcement in the weekly “Little Light” is 9:00 AM Friday mornings.
Morning Star works with many organizations to spread the word of God. As an example, together with St. Timothy's Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church of Omaha, worked on such projects as the series of "River City Renewal Services" in the fall of 2007. Both churches have recently been added to our "Ministry Partners" page, formerly known as our "Links" page.
Note also, that our web site organization has changed slightly. We have broken up the "For You" page into its various topics - each one now listed separately in the left side bar. We hope this change will allow you to access your topic of interest more directly and more intuitively.
Our PreSchool now has a separate web site! We hope to utilize this space a means to express the unique niche that our preschool has in our community. It is also a way for us to be responsive to the needs of the unique community of families which our preschool nurtures and supports by updating photos, news and other information on a daily basis. Besides the left side bar, you may utilize the link on our Outreach page.
Also, we moved some material from this News page to other pages as it has become somewhat permanent in nature. An example would be the church council listing, which now appears at the bottom of the About Us page.
