Ramblings 05/05/2008:  Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone.

Yesterday was Teacher Appreciation Sunday.  My thanks goes to Anita for putting it together and another thanks goes to all the youth that helped with it.  A special thanks from me goes to all the teachers who have taught Sunday School this year at Morning Star.  I know teaching takes a chunk out of a person’s schedule, but the work is truly appreciated.

Several weeks ago, the youth commented that the youth room needs some more couches.  Others said it needs to be redecorated.  The high school youth will be taking a few hours out of our day to hunt for more couches for out youth room.  We will meet here at Morning Star on June 8th at 2:00 PM, then begin our search by going to garage sales.  Who knows what else we’ll find this way.  This event will not go past 5:00 PM.

Ramblings 04/28/2008:  If you wanted to play kickball, well you missed out.  We went bowling instead.  There will always be other opportunities to play.  Like I said earlier, we went to Coldstone Creamery as part of the event.  Coldstone may be very tasty, but it is way overpriced.  It is rare to find a small cup of ice cream worth $4.00, and that cup cannot be found at Coldstone.

Only three sessions of Sunday School left.  I don’t know what Mr. Wolfe is brewing for the confirmation group, but I can tell you what the high school is up to.  Next week, we will be helping with Teacher Appreciation Sunday.  By special request, our last two classes will be about Buddhism and Scientology.  These are worth waking up early on Sunday for!

We have a time and a date for the confirmation group lock-in!  We will be locking-in with First Lutheran here at Morning Star on Friday June 13th at 8:30 PM to June 14th at 7:00 AM.  Games will run on through the night along with a special Bible study.  Keep your eyes open so you don’t miss this one!

Ramblings 04/21/2008:  Summer is going to be quite busy for me.  Youth events just keep stacking up!  You can read all about the events coming up at the bottom of this page as well as in the church’s newsletter, The Light.  This Sunday, the high school and I are playing kickball.  I just hope I don’t embarrass myself too bad while playing.

Right now, I’m working on regular meetings for the youth during the summer.  I’m going to call it “Summer Celebration.”  7-12th grades will meet every 2nd and 4th Wednesday evening of June and July for Bible study and fellowship.

Ramblings 04/14/2008:  Lousy weather.  I know I tend to complain a lot about the weather, but I have a legitimate reason for doing so from this past weekend.  I was supposed to go fishing last Sunday, but the weather would not allow.  Sure, it was sunny, but don’t count on it being easy to ride in a dinky boat loaded up with equipment with all that wind!

— Sorry.  I was looking forward to fishing since winter.  Saturday was a good day to stay indoors, and that’s exactly what happened.  The high school youth and I played Laser Tag, then went to Buffalo Wild Wings.  I attempted to eat the restaurant’s Blazin’ wings.  After drinking two glasses of water and two glasses of Mr. Pibb, I managed to eat all of them.  And yes, I thought they actually tasted good!  You can see pictures from the event once the youth photo database decides to cooperate with me.

Ramblings 04/07/2008:  As promised, here are pictures from the Easter Breakfast.

Today Pastor Tom handed me a hippopotamus.  It is small, green, and shaped like a ball.  I’m not sure why exactly Pastor gave it to me.  I think I’ll name it Steven.  I think it is a great addition to my office.  It goes well with my Jesus action figure.

As you may have heard, the high school are going to go play Laser Tag.  I just hope I do better than I did last time.  If you need details, please look below.

So there’s quite a few proms coming up this month.  Proms are usually fun, once you get past the price tag.  I recall an occasion in which some friends of mine and I rented a limo.  There were twelve of us sandwiched in the back.  It was fun, just not very comfortable.  If you’re not planning on going to prom, at least make it to your school’s post-prom.  They usually have all sorts of games and prizes a person can win.  I won a portable CD player (iPods didn’t exist back then) one year!  That was a big deal.  Anyhow, as a role model to you, the youth, I need to tell you to be safe and make healthy decisions on your prom night.  I’m sure you all are tired of hearing that, but I needed to remind you one more time.  Think twice before doing something that you might possibly regret.  Yes, this can even include opting to rent the powder blue tuxedo as opposed to a standard black tux.

High School Youth Events

Please note that the default time and location for High School youth outings is every second and fourth Sunday of the month at 7:00 PM at the church.  If the time and place for the outing is different than usual, we'll post it here.

bullet5/10/2008 — Sock Wars
At 2:00 PM this day we will play a rather well-known game among youth directors that is called Sock Wars.  The rules work similar to dodge ball, except the game is played with new socks.  Everyone wishing to play the game will buy 3 new pairs of socks, roll them up into balls, then use them as ammunition.  Once the game is over, the socks will be donated to a charity.  In our case, this happens to be Lutheran Refugee Services.  Confirmation and high school youth as well as their parents are invited to play.

bullet6/08/2008 — Couch Hunt
The Youth Room needs some help.  To provide that help, we’ll be hunting for new couches and whatever else we find at garages sales.  We’ll meet here at Morning Star at 2:00 PM, then commence our hunt.  We’ll stop no later than 5:00 PM.

bullet6/29/2008 — High School Hike
Have you ever been to Signature Rock?  Or have you ever stumbled upon a beaver dam?  Because August third, the beginning of the high school backpacking trip, is drawing closer, we will be meeting with the Outdoor Program Coordinator out at Camp Carol Joy Holling on June 29th at 1:10 PM, then going for a hike out there.   We will first meet at Morning Star at 12:30 PM, then carpool out to the camp.  All high school youth are encouraged to join us on this excursion through the trees and over the hills.  If you are going on the backpacking trip this summer, you are required to attend.  We should be done around 5:00 PM.

bullet6/13/2008 — Lock-In!
The First/Morning Star Confirmation lock-in is back!  The lock-in will be very similar to what we did last year: food, games, Bible study, and Hide-n-Go-Seek!  Bring a Bible and a snack to add to the snack pile! Parents:  would you like to act like a teenager again?  We need a few “grown-up teenagers” at our lock-in.  We have two shifts available for this:  8:30PM to 1:00AM and 1:00AM to 7:00AM.

“Big Gulps, huh? Allright!  Well, see ya later.”
