Building Up in
Faith — is the theme for our
current capital campaign. Just about every corner of our church
home is receiving a dramatic improvement. And those areas not under
remodel are receiving fresh paint and a little attention.
Let’s point out two wonderful blessings bestowed upon Morning Star Lutheran
Church. First, it’s true our church home has been in a constant
state of change all summer. The blessing is that all of the
construction will be done in one summer. By finishing the remodel in
one summer, we will avoid having to cancel or postpone weddings and other
activities that might be scheduled. Also, we receive the benefits of
construction cost savings by having the work done all at once.
Second, many other congregations in Omaha (some are neighbors) are
undergoing remodeling projects, and none have 75% funding upfront. We
are so blessed by what was left to us in the Hickey-Kramer Estate.
Considering 3/4 of what’s needed is already established, the capital
campaign is our opportunity to share in this monumental project. In
fact, in our 50 years of ministry, we have made numerous improvements
supported by Morning Star donors, without a capital campaign. The
phrase surfaces every time we discuss this with members of Morning Star, “it’s
our turn”. And those words are true.
“It’s our turn” to follow up with the act of generosity
grounded by the Hickey-Kramer Estate. “It’s our turn” to give like
Cecil and Harriet Johnson, who added the chapel, elevator, canopy drive,
storage, accessible restrooms and accessible communion rail. “It’s our
turn” to give like the Swanson's who donated the land and much more.
But, the act of giving to the capital campaign is forefront.
A gift of $50 is valued, a gift of $500 is valued, and a pledge of $500 for 3
years is valued. If someone contributes $50 a month for three years, your
gift to Morning Star is $1,800. If you decide to give $1,000 over three
years, your gift is $3,000. Every gift is appreciated, has value and is
needed.
How much are we trying to raise? Approximately $750,000
toward the total budget of $2.2 million. With over 75% already
contributed, this $750,000 represents our 25% and will be paid by a bank loan,
arranged by the council. So, this fundraising effort is to payoff the bank
loan. And wouldn’t it be nice to pay it off early?
